Interview with the balloon manufacturer CATTEX

LOONERS UNITED_Cattex Company

Danilo Catallo from CATTEX gives us a short insight in the family business

When you think of CATTEX what comes to your mind? I immediately think of unique figure balloons, huge giant balloons, tons of printing motives and Italy. But I´m sure there are much more things to learn about this successful family business. Danilo Catallo is part of it and answered me some questions exclusively for LOONERS UNITED. Thank you Danilo for letting us take an insight look in your work and life, enjoy reading it!

I would like to know some personal details about you, like: Where are you from? Age? Job title?

My name is Danilo Catallo, I am 31 years old and I’m from Italy. My job title is printing manager, quality supervisor and color designer.

Tell us something about your family business! How and when did everything start? What is your philosophy?

My philosophy is: “always to do better“!

CATTEX produces natural rubber balloons since 1964 and what started off as a craft business became an industry in 1987.

Over the years production has increased considerably. The needs of a constantly expanding market and the demand for new products have helped to improve the quality of our balloons. In 1993 machinery installed was entirely run by computers and during the same period the company began working with plastic materials and the production of articles for medical use. In 2001 CATTEX  built a new factory and renewed all its machinery.

Thanks to continuous investments, CATTEX was able to grow and become an important industry leader.

The continuous development and research of manufacturing techniques and state of the arts printing quality have elevated CATTEX to be one of the leading companies in Europe and our balloons fly in the skies all over the world. Today CATTEX offers a complete range of products and accessories in over 75 different colors. CATTEX has the ability to print on two sides from 1 to 8 colors,CMYK, CMYK + white, up to 3 colors all-around and giant balloons up to 6 colors.

Did you always wanted to work at your family´s business? How many family members are actually involved in it?

Yes, I always wanted to work in my family business, since I was little boy. Eleven family members work in the family business.

What exactly does your job looks like and what do you like most about it?

I´m in production and my favorite part of the job is “selling the product” ;).

What do you like about Balloons and do you have a favorite one?

I love everything about balloons and my favorite is the next one. This is a saying because all of our balloons are my favorite ones.

What is the idea behind your giant figure shaped balloons and what are they usually used for?

The idea was to make balloons that were massive to distinguish us from the competition. The giant balloons have many uses from compositions to looners so forth and so on.

Are you and your company aware of the looner scene and what is your opinion about it?

Yes we are. We appreciate that our product is giving so many looners, so much pleasure!

Can we look forward to some cool new balloons from CATTEX in the near future?

We are always researching new ideas for balloons. We invest heavily into this area of the business as we think this is the most important part to give us competitive advantage.

I also would enjoy a nice full figured, curvaceous lady balloon. There is a brand available but I find them very difficult to fully inflate without bursting and rather expensive for my limited budget. The site has pictures of versions with separate breasts but does not actually sell them. I cannot even get my choice of color without spending more money than I have. I wonder whether a geodonut type hole is too much to ask. Perhaps the more complex the curves become, the more difficult they are to manufacture and inflate.

Thank you to Danilo for taking the time to do this interview, for his friendship on FB and for his and his families business for producing such high quality and unique balloons. Also I would like to thank him and his family for their refreshing acceptance of the Looner community and desire to keep all us looners and loonettes well stocked with their large and diverse product range. I had always wondered if the balloon companies were aware of us and their feelings towards us, so to know that Cattex is not only aware we exist, but actually support our use of their products is seriously cool. I would like to second Jo’s suggestion of a female torso balloon and perhaps if isn’t too much of a logistical nightmare maybe it could include a hole similar to geo donuts to make it more ‘practical’ lol

My final thanks go to you Maggy for once again bringing an informative yet lighthearted and exclusive interview, kisses and hugs for my favourite loonette

Just wanted to express my gratitude to both Balloons United for the interview and for Cattex for producing these awesome balloons. I hope that they continue to do so. If I may contribute some ideas for future balloons, perhaps some latex balloons that can inflate to look like fish, crabs, lobsters, or perhaps even a red maple leaf, considering that today is Canada Day today? Anyways, my apologies for being bother. Wishing both companies all the best in your futures!

    Kindest regards,

    Alexander R. Poirier
